Human basal media

Alpha MEM

Alpha MEM (Minimum Essential Medium Alpha Modification) is a type of cell culture medium used for the growth and maintenance of various mammalian cell types. It is a modification of the original MEM (Minimum Essential Medium) and contains additional components like nucleosides, vitamins, and other nutrients that support cell growth.

Alpha MEM is commonly used for:

  • Culturing primary cells(e.g., bone marrow cells, osteoblasts)
  • Growing transformed cell lines (e.g., fibroblasts, endothelial cells)
  • Supporting hybridoma cells for monoclonal antibody production
  • Maintaining stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)
  • Bone and cartilage cell research

Applications:

  1. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)
  2. Osteoblasts (bone-forming cells)
  3. Fibroblasts
  4. Endothelial cells
  5. Lymphocytes and hybridoma cells (for antibody production)

OTHER CATEGORIES

RPMI-1640

RPMI-1640 (Roswell Park Memorial Institute Medium 1640) is a widely used cell culture medium designed for the growth and maintenance of various mammalian cell types. Originally developed at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, this medium contains essential nutrients, amino acids, vitamins, and inorganic salts, making it suitable for a broad range of cell culture applications. It is often supplemented with fetal bovine serum (FBS) and other growth factors to enhance cell proliferation.

RPMI-1640 is commonly used for:

  • Culturing lymphoid cells, including T cells, B cells, and hybridomas
  • Supporting hematopoietic and immune cell lines (e.g., Jurkat, THP-1, U937)
  • Growing adherent and suspension cells in immunology and oncology research
  • Supporting virus and vaccine production
  • General cell culture applications in biomedical research

Applications:

  1. Lymphocytes and immune cells
  2. Hybridoma cells for antibody production
  3. Cancer cell lines (e.g., leukemia, lymphoma)
  4. Macrophages and monocytes
  5. Stem cell research and differentiation studies

IMDM

IMDM (Iscove’s Modified Dulbecco’s Medium) is an advanced cell culture medium designed for the growth and maintenance of various mammalian cell types, particularly those with high metabolic demands. It is a modification of Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) and contains additional nutrients such as selenium, amino acids, and a higher concentration of vitamins and glucose. IMDM is often used in serum-free or low-serum culture conditions due to its enhanced nutrient composition.

IMDM is commonly used for:

  • Culturing hematopoietic cells, including T cells, B cells, and myeloid cells
  • Supporting hybridoma and lymphoid cell lines for monoclonal antibody production
  • Growing stem cells, including embryonic stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)
  • Expanding primary cells and genetically modified cells
  • Applications in immunology, oncology, and vaccine research

Applications:

  1. Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells
  2. T cells, B cells, and immune cell cultures
  3. Hybridoma cells for monoclonal antibody production
  4. Cancer and leukemia research
  5. Serum-free and low-serum culture systems
